What is the "Buildathon" competition?

It is a global student challenge hosted by Autodesk Learning Partners designed to empower the next generation of creators. We invite students to use Autodesk tools to solve real-world problems and "Design for Impact" within their local or global communities.

When is the Buildathon happening?

The Buildathon will run over two days, 18-19 August 2026.

Who is eligible to enter?

The competition is open to students enrolled at a Qualified Educational Institution. All participants must meet Autodesk’s eligibility criteria for accessing the Education Plan and be enrolled at a Qualified Educational Institution at the time of the competition. You may be asked by the organizers to confirm your eligibility by showcasing proof such as a student ID or equivalent. Students must be 18+ years old

Is there an entry fee?

No. Participation is completely free for all eligible students

Can I enter as an individual?

No. To foster collaboration and mirror professional industry workflows, all entries must be submitted by a team of two (2) or more students. Maximum team size is four (4).

What is the registration deadline?

Your team must be officially registered by August 10, 2026. Late registrations will not be accepted, so ensure your team details are finalized before this date.

Which software is required?

The required software includes Forma Site Design and Revit.
Students can access these for free through the Autodesk Education Plan.

What needs to be included in the submission?

The final submission should be in PDF format.
It needs to be one single file and include the following:

  • Floor Plans: Area breakdown per room for all floors.
  • Footprint: Proof total building footprint is under 1,500m².
  • Forma Data: Solar, wind, and PV metrics for each concept.
  • Rationale: 100–150 word design justification text.

    All concepts presented on one final proposed design.
    We will provide the link to upload the final project.
    This will be geo specific.
When is the final project submission deadline?

The final deadline for all project materials is August 19, 2026, at 6:00 PM local time in your specific geographic region (SGT, BST, EDT and PDT).

Do I need prior knowledge of Autodesk Forma Site Design and Revit to participate?

It will be each participant’s responsibility to ensure that they have the required skills. There will be briefing sessions held at 8 AM local time in four time zones (SGT, BST, EDT and PDT).

Can you tell me more about the competition challenge?

Please note though that we will not reveal the detailed competition brief until the day of the briefing session. This is to ensure fairness for all participants. You will have time to review the competition brief, evaluate options and come up with solutions over the following 2 days of the competition.

Will you share additional event information?

Yes, following your registration we will send out a confirmation email. We will also follow up with additional practical information as we approach the event. Make sure you include all your team members’ contact details on the registration form to ensure that you don’t miss any important updates.
